Etna Police Activities League (PAL) is a non-profit organization that has been providing preventative and early intervention services to our youth, ages 5-18, for over 24 years. Established in January of 2001 and based out of the community of Scott Valley, with youth from multiple areas of our county coming into the valley to participate in our programs. Etna PAL provides various activities including athletics, educational presentations, tours, and training classes. Our programs include a swim team, volleyball, soccer, flag football, basketball, wrestling, Explorers, Hunters Safety, and mentoring programs (Harmony with Horses and Keepin' it REAL). We also sponsor and promote local activities to bring the community together which include holiday gatherings, parades, festivals, and many other events.
Siskiyou County is a large rural county. It is geographically diverse with high mountain terrain, forests, valleys, lakes, and high deserts. Many areas are geographically isolated, taking 8-93 miles to reach the county seat of Yreka, where most services are located. There are two major towns, Fort Jones and Etna, with many other small communities surrounding the area which make up the Scott Valley community. Having one public school district that covers this whole area. Scott Valley School District has 2,233 students with 2 elementaries, 1 junior high, 1 high school and 1 continuation. These schools are in Etna and Fort Jones (12 miles apart). The Quartz Valley Indian Reservation is located within the Fort Jones zip code, yet 14 miles from the actual town of Fort Jones. We continuously are looking for more ways to bring to our spread-out-community together by providing athletic and non-athletic programs and services to the community, continuing to offer a safe place for our youth will build better bonds with Law Enforcement and other safe, responsible, active adults within our community.
Etna PAL partners closely with the Etna Police Department to implement all our programs. Our local police chief supports our efforts in all ways and encourages his officers involvement in all our programs. Our strong community partnerships with the City of Etna, local businesses, Siskiyou County MHSA , Quartz Valley Indian Reservation, Kidder Creek Camp, JH Ranch, Scott Valley Resource Center, CAL PAL, National PAL, CDFW, Youth Corrections, Anav Tribal Health, UC Davis Siskiyou Upward Bound, the Ford Foundation, and the schools and homeschooling groups within Scott Valley, Shasta Valley, and South County help us reach the youth, create, and provided the necessary services for the youth in our community.
