    SVST Information, Fees and Registrations

Etna PAL Swim Team is a program run by the Etna Police Activities League, Inc. The team was established in the summer of 2000. We are known in the community by different names: Scott Valley Swim Team (SVST), Sharks, Etna PAL Swim Team. Let me explain, our team has been registered with USA Swimming since 2000 as Scott Valley Swim Team (SVST), our team mascot is "Sharks", and the team is financed, insured, and run through Etna Police Activities League (PAL). We are all the same, all inter-exchangeable, and all united! The Swim team is run through the help of a parent committee that is overseen and directed by the Etna PAL's Board of Directors.

    Participation:

    • Etna PAL serves school age youth from the ages of 5-18.
    • Can your child swim the length of the pool. (If the answer is no, please sign your child up for swim lessons through the City of Etna's Dotty Olson Community Pool.) Due to safety issues, child must be able to swim length of pool to be on the team. This will be evaluated by the coach.

With the Swim Team Registration, you will also obtain 2024-2025 Etna PAL Membership if you have not already. These are separate fees (Due after passing the Swim Test):

    • 2024-2025 Etna PAL Membership $30/youth (for those who are not current members)
    • 2025 Swim Team Registration $100/youth
    • USA Swim Registration/Fees will be obtained and paid for by the parent (you must have this in order to compete at meets)
    • Swim Meet Registration/Fees will be obtained and paid for by the parent (you must do this for each meet attending)

    Swim Team Rules

    1. Come to practice prepared with:
A cheerful attitude; Swimsuit; Goggles; Cap
      Towel; Water bottle; Warm clothes
    2. Be on time.
    3. Swimmers and parents please stay and help with putting in and taking out lane lines and cleaning up swim equipment at the end of practice.
    4. If you need to use the restroom, you must ask the coach you are working with for that day before you leave the pool area.  Warming up in the showers is not allowed during practice unless the need is recognized and allowed by a coach.
    5. Show respect to coaches and fellow teammates.  When the coaches are speaking, there is to be no additional talking or whispering going on.  You will have a chance to ask questions or make comments after announcements in the mornings.
    6. No bad language ever is to be used.  You represent the EPAL/Scott Valley Swim Team and what you say and how you act reflects back to the team.
    7.  Come to practice "to practice".  No goofing off or disrupting others who are working hard.  Swimmers will receive one warning from the coaches and if that swimmer chooses to continue making poor behavior choices, they will call their parents to pick them up or be asked to leave practice for the day.  If that swimmer leaves on his/her own, their parents will be called after practice to discuss what happened.
    8. Coaches are not responsible for swimmers once their practice is finished.  They will not be staying at the pool to wait for their parents. Please be prompt in picking up your children and watch your children who are not in the pool.
    9.  Swimmers are not allowed in the pool office unless a coach asks them to get something for them.
    10. Rules of the Deck: Only Coaching Staff and swimmers that are practicing at the time allowed. Swimmers are only allowed on deck when it is their practice time. No Parents on deck.
    11. Parents, please refrain from coaching your children when they are at practice. If you'd like to help coach,  please ask the coach for permission.
    12.  Your children are in good hands with a great coaching staff.  The coaches work as a team to give your children the tools to be efficient swimmers.  If you have any questions or concerns, please talk to us either before or after practice.
    13.  Each swimmer will set a goal or goals as to what they would like to achieve during the swimming season.  The coaches will provide the tools for that swimmer to help them achieve those goals.  It is up to you as a swimmer to want to use the tools to get better.  No one else can achieve the goals you set for you.
    14. Use practice etiquette when swimming with others. Swimmers will swim in a circular motion, counterclockwise in their lanes.  The lane line will always be to the right of their bodies.  The fastest swimmers go first in each lane. After the first swimmer leaves, the second swimmer must wait an appropriate distance as directed by their coach.  If for some reason another swimmer catches up to you, they will touch your foot.  When you reach the end of the lane you are to let them pass you and wait until they reach an appropriate distance.
    15. Always follow the posted pool rules.
    16.  Never dive or jump into the practice pool unless instructed to do so by your coaches.  Other swimmers could be under the water in the pool and you may injure them and yourself if you are not careful.
    17.  Check the whiteboard at practice for announcements.
    18.  If you have a question or problem about anything at all, please let us know.  We will do our best to find the answer or resolve the problem.  If your problems or questions are not resolved, please reach out to Alicia Pindell, Etna PAL's Director, at etnapdpal@gmail.com or (530) 598-9833.
    19. Eat healthy foods before and after practice to replace the calories you will use during practice.
    20.  Team suits and caps need to be worn at swim meets. A team swim cap must be worn during race events too.
    21. We will have a great summer; we are glad you are part of the team!  GO SHARKS!!
