This program is a comprehensive opportunity for youth aged 14 to 18 to participate in the public safety sector for career development and experience spanning through Fire, EMS, and Law Enforcement. Our current program is highly regulated for safety and accountability. Each explorer must complete a background packet allowing the program to monitor their social and educational behavior. The Explorer comprises a board of directors with the youth involved and is heavily monitored by Department Directors, Chiefs, and Police Officers. Each program opportunity is overseen by adults with each being fingerprinted and completing a background. Chaperons are provided for each program engagement including male and female guides. The ride-along portion of the program is overseen by a supervisor and the personnel they choose to shadow. Before each ride-along a waiver is signed by the parent and youth which briefs the explorer on what is expected of them in a multitude of situations. In the event of a highly dangerous call for service a pre-determined safety plan will go into effect and the participant will be taken to a safe place prior to the response of the officer. When the live fire section of our explorer program is implemented, it is done by qualified POST rangemasters meeting the proper student to instructor ratio. All range rules are followed, and each must demonstrate a certain safety level as well as having to successfully complete a hunters safety program before being able to participate. Overall, this program is overseen by three department heads in their corresponding responsibilities giving each participant an incredible opportunity to engage and help their community.
